I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

I hope this is ok to share here - I think I’ve mentioned in the past how I’ve saved tons of money paying school tuition with Visa and MC gift cards. With Staples having their fee-free Visa cards next week, I thought it might be helpful to share the write up of what I did (I ended up “saving” almost $1500 paying tuition!) https://www.facebook.com/1000893163...4CE22q1tJhKEW5zqpMVaiuRmBkxG7DVmvigCfwCl/?d=n
That was very interesting and got me thinking. I have done the fee free $200 GCs and paid the service charge like you did. Last time however, I saw something that said my school also accepts money orders. I don't think there would be any fees associated with that. They should be just like checks. That got me thinking of how some people use their GCs to purchase MOs but I don't know how to do that exactly. Is there anyone out there who can explain it? Like a "for dummies" version LOL?

The biggest thing is having somewhere you can buy them with those cards and knowing their fee so you come to a total of $200.

Where are you as some places are much better for it than others and there may be someone that knows what stores etc do. Though it's always ymmv with any location. I don't try it because I don't think there's really anywhere around I could even do it. And the one I maybe could always has a loooooong line and wouldn't be worth my time.

Oh darn. She was pushing me to hurry and book it because she only wanted that one flight time, so I used my CSR (wrong choice). I'm going to make a note for next time because she flies infrequently but always asks me to book it for her. Also, I think she should maybe get one of the SW cards so she can fly on points next time.
She can transfer URs to SW with her CSP to use points. Not saying getting a SW card is bad though.

Do we know what the magic formula is for getting approved for a Venture X? DH applied last year during the initial bonus, and was denied. He’s now 3/24 & 1/12. I would think those are favorable stats, but I’m hesitant because it’s the only denial he’s ever had. Anyone with recent DPs?

I just got instant approval for VenX yesterday. I was also denied last year just before the 100k offer went away - I wasn't surprised about the denial as I had too many recent inquiries (for Biz cards) for Cap1s' liking.

I tried again yesterday as I have dropped to 2/24 with only 1 inquiry in the past 6 months and had success this time.

I think they want you to have some sort of balance on your cards, or am I thinking of Citi Premier?

With Japan, I have a loose itinerary written up of everything we want to do. But my problem is, IG has figured out we're going to Japan and has only been showing me Japan reels now, ALL THE TIME. And I'm hooked. I've found out about so much stuff I didn't know about, and now I feel like there's more to do than we have time for, lol. I don't know about blogs or anything, but IG has a lot of updated travel info of whats open/whats not, etc.
deleted social but youtube keeps sending me down this rabbit hole also. I feel I need 45 days there myself.

I think you’re right about the carrying a balance. I remember reading that. Oddly DH was approved for the Citi Premiere, but no dice with Cap One.

DH may have several Biz card inquires 😬 Now that you say that, I’m thinking it was a denial for recent inquiries last year also. I’ll have to see how many he’s had in the past year, but it’s definitely more than 1. Shoot

I never carry a balance and got approved for VenX last December (after getting a Chase Aer Lingus in Nov). I was probably 3-4/24 at the time and had decent velocity over last 12-24 months. I did not have ANY Biz cards or applications at that point in time.

For those of you that have the ATT Business Fiber offer on your Amex card, there is a way to use the offer on any ATT product.
I clicked on the link from the offer and opened it in Incognito browser. From the landing page in the upper right corner under Account click pay without signing in which brings up a new tab. I Selected Uverse, entered in my account number. Did not click check balance. Proceeded to pay $50.00. It limits you to 2 of these payments every 24 hours. Pre auth on Amex shows AT&T HSIA BUS E-EVR. My account is residential AT&T Fiber standalone.

I got the Amex email about 48 hours later and the credit posted 5 days later. I just did it on 12/28.

ETA: I did not find this workaround, I learned it from comments on Doc.
Thanks for this! Just followed these steps to pay $50 on my AT&T wireless bill. Fingers crossed it works like your did!

Has anyone w/ mobility issues done an Alaska cruise? Mom uses a walker (when she's not too stubborn) and I'd love to take her on an Alaska cruise for her 70th (Summer 2024). I'm not worried about the on-ship bits as much as the excursions (or we could do none and do our own thing, I'm open to that so she doesn't feel rushed by a tour). Would love input if anyone has any!

Let me know if it works for you. Trying to make my son responsible for his own bills, but at the same time if I can offset some for him I'd be happy to use the offer for his cell phone. I'd be happily paying it if he was still on T-Mobile with the rest of the family.

Do you have anyone on ig you recommend? I've done some searching and not been very successful. Probably doesn't help that I only use ig on my phone and most of the research is done on my tablet or laptop.

We took my DM on one. She has serious mobility issues but won't use a walker (so I know what you mean by stubborn). She decided she was happy staying on the ship (she'd been to Alaska before) but there are some excursions like the railway in Skagway that don't require walking. I also asked for wheelchair help at both airports and that helped a lot, although if she would be willing to travel with us again I think I'd just rent one so I didn't have to wait for help. On the plus side, the route we took was gorgeous pretty much the entire time, so she was able to enjoy the scenery every day. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

No, that helps. Thank you! I know she'll love the passage cruise days (I'd do a balcony cabin) and it's good to know about the Skagway excursion! She can cover the distance, she's just slow and needs frequent breaks, so I think if we chose excursions carefully (or just did our own wander about town) she'd be okay.

I'm in Maryland.

We had a balcony cabin and she was really happy having the private balcony, especially on our glacier day. Our ship docked really close to the train in Skagway (as in, super close) so it was a quick walk. Also, we left from Vancouver, and stayed at the hotel right above the port and they were nice enough to let us use a wheelchair to go up the elevator to our room and bring her down to the check in area.
