Amanda & Josh's Wishes Wedding - 05.04.15 - SBP/Attic/UK Lochside - The End (Complete)

Ah recruitment! Welcome to our world :) That's also why I've dropped off the face of the DIS since September. So much to catch up on!

I can't believe your honeymoon is nearly over. You're making me want to do a DVC tour so badly! Kevin's very against it, so I'll have to work on that.

I think it's a little funny that neither of you ordered seafood at Coral Reef! If anything I think that's a mark that the restaurant isn't that bad, if you can order the non-specialty and still enjoy your meal.

Nooooooo I'm not ready for the honeymoon to end!! Say you'll do a TR for December?

I think as long as you're pretty strong in your resolve if you don't plan to buy in, the DVC tour would be fine. It really wasn't high pressure -- I really wanted to join going into it, which is why I was so easily swayed. Haha. :) I'm glad we got a small contract because when we add on more points, we're totally going the resale route. It's definitely the way to go if you don't mind missing out on booking outside of the DVC resorts.

I don't want it to end either! I'm starting to get antsy for our wedding film, but since that's the last thing pending before our wedding is really over, I guess I should be patient.

Also, I need to do more branching out here on the DIS. I didn't realize there was an entire board for TRs, haha. I'll have to remember that for our trips moving forward! :)

BEO

I suppose this should have been posted earlier, but here was our final BEO. Hopefully this will be helpful to other couples in the planning stages of a Disney wedding. I would like to note that we got $1947 back afterward, so I’m definitely glad we did a BOC bar.

Looking back now, I probably would have had less food at the reception, but the minimums are pretty high. The new, cheaper Wishes package obviously wasn't an option for us, but a) I wanted to get married on Monday, and b) we exceeded our enhancement minimum by such a large margin that it didn't matter that much anyway. We would have saved money on food, though. If I were to HAVE to cut anything now in hindsight, it would be the Dapper Dans. They did a great job and Josh and I loved them, but I think the majority of our guests would have preferred talking and mingling uninterrupted. I felt so much pressure to entertain everyone, especially since we didn't have dancing or a deejay. Looking back, I'm not sure if that was totally necessary.

If anyone has any questions about the BEO or my thoughts in hindsight, please ask. :thumbsup2

Thank you for sharing, Amanda. My wedding is on a Monday too. :) Quick question, did the food served at your dessert party count towards the $3,500 minimum requirement for food and beverage? I love the Nacho bar! Also, anything else you would have done differently at your reception?

You're welcome! :) Hope it helps. Unfortunately, the food at the dessert party did not count toward the minimums for food & beverage or enhancements. It was all extra. I highly recommend the nacho bar if you decide to have a DP -- it was a huge hit with all of our guests! We considered doing the DP as the welcome dinner to save money, but I really wanted to be in our wedding attire for the firework photos. Plus, I liked the idea of a sort of "grand finale" for the wedding.

There aren't any major things I would have done differently at the reception, but there are a few little details I wish I had done/thought of on the wedding day. I wish that our guest book had been displayed in a more prominent spot as a few of our guests missed out on signing it -- but that's not something I even remotely noticed the day of. Also, I wish that I had made it a point to get an individual photo of us with each of our guests at either the reception or the DP. That's something I've heard of other brides doing that I think is a great idea. It would have been nice to have to include with the thank you cards we sent out.

This is SO helpful! Thanks Amanda! And yes, if we have the Disney wedding, then we are definitely doing a Thursday mini Wishes ceremony to save money since we don't plan on going to far over the enhancement minimums. If I may ask, about what was the total cost of just your Dessert Party? I really want to do one, but if we do, it will be as a Welcome/Rehearsal Dinner, since the number of guests coming to our wedding I think will be pretty large.

Day 8: Epcot, DVC tour, & Star Wars dinner

First of all, I’m still alive. I haven’t forgotten about finishing my TR. I started working in our college recruitment office this semester, and this is prime recruiting season. So I have been incredibly busy with work and have been neglecting the boards here. I’m behind on several PJs too, but I will get caught up someday soon. I'm hoping to have our wedding film sometime in the next month or so, so I will share that here. Once I have it, I will also post final vendor reviews as well as our BEO (if that be helpful to share?) and a fun post of "bonus features" (photos/videos taken by our guests and our physical wedding albums). :) Stay tuned: I still have a few things to share before it's officially The End.

We woke up a little later than anticipated this morning, so we got ready quickly and walked to Epcot. Josh and I got a little breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, one of my favorite quick service restaurants. By this point of the trip though, I was starting to feel perpetually stuffed from the quantity of food we were eating on the dining plan. Generally, we like to have a heavier breakfast, skip lunch, and then have dinner relatively early in the evening. I didn’t eat much for breakfast because we were eating lunch at Coral Reef.

After breakfast, we rode Mission Space (the weenie hut version because that’s all I can handle) and Soarin’. While we were getting seated at Soarin’, the two kids next to us completely lost it and started crying/screaming because they were afraid that the ride was going to be scary. One of the kids had to be taken outside by a parent because the CM said they couldn’t start the ride if he didn’t stop panicking. It seemed like the little girl who got to stay on enjoyed herself after the ride started, at least. LOL.

Fun topiaries near the entrance.

Soon, it was time for our lunch reservation. As a whole, it seems like a lot of folks hate Coral Reef, but we like it. We didn’t get a very good table this time, and we couldn’t see the aquarium very well. I guess honeymoon pixie dust only goes so far. Haha. (After our awesome room upgrade at the GF, I seriously didn’t expect anything at all. That’s years’ worth of pixie dust there. Haha) I ordered the vegetarian chick’n breast and Josh got steak. My food was better here than it was in October, I think. For dessert, I opted for the cheesecake and Josh got the chocolate mousse cake.

We had time to ride Spaceship Earth and take a few photos before heading to the entrance to meet our DVC escort. When we got outside, we saw a DVC van parked and waiting for us. The guide chatted with us as we drove to Saratoga Springs. Neither of us has been to Saratoga before, and we were impressed. It still is one of the lower resorts on our list of preferred deluxes, but we liked it more than we expected. We were shown to the room we would be meeting in, and our guide arrived very quickly. We chatted for a few minutes, watched a brief video, and then it was time to embark on the tour. Now, I didn’t take personal photos of the units we saw because I was distracted, but it also felt a little awkward to take a bunch of pictures. Sorry!

The first unit we saw was from Aulani, which is on my travel bucket list. (I don’t know why, but ever since I was young, I’ve wanted to spend a Christmas in Hawaii so I could go around singing Mele Kalikmaka legitimately) Aulani is currently one of the properties “open” for folks buying in, but it’s not really practical for us. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem particularly difficult booking there 7 months out anyway. The unit was nice, though.

Up next was the Polynesian, the other available property. I really, really liked this unit. We’ve never stayed at the Poly before, and I’m not sure if it would ever be a preference over one of the Boardwalk area resorts, but the studios were very impressive. (We’ll come back to them later.) My favorite part aside from the raised bed (for storing luggage underneath) was definitely the bathroom. It had a more modern, kind of upscale feel than most of the bathrooms in Disney resorts.

Last, but definitely not least, we saw a studio and a one bedroom from the villas at the Grand Floridian. Oh my gosh!!! I know I got spoiled to staying one night at the GF, and seeing these beautiful villas certainly didn’t help. They are absolutely beautiful. Maybe one day we’ll be able to afford staying at the GF for a trip, but I know that the studios here fill up extremely quickly. The one bedroom blew me away, especially the gorgeous old-fashioned bathtub. Why do the one bedrooms have to cost so much more than the studios? LOL

After we saw the units, we sat down to talk about details and numbers. I think the guide knew he had me convinced after he showed me the GF units, haha, but he gave us a few minutes alone to talk things over. Josh was a bit more apprehensive, and we knew it wasn’t necessarily the best time for it since we just paid for our Disney wedding, but… we joined the Disney Vacation Club! We got a small contract at the Polynesian. I already want to add on to our points, but I think I would like a resale at either BW or AKL. Anyway, after taking care of a few "make it official" matters, we were given some informational materials in a DVC member bag and were escorted to the ice cream parlor.

Josh and I got just a small cup of celebratory ice cream. They had some pretty cool stuff around the room, and I had to get a picture of this train.

With the tour finished, another DVC guide drove us back to the Boardwalk. Josh and I had just enough time to freshen up a little before we needed to leave for our Star Wars dinner at Hollywood and Vine. The boat came pretty quickly, and we lucked out by being one of just a few families headed to the Studios at the moment. Once we arrived at HS, we went straight to Hollywood and Vine to check in for the meal. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting very much because it seems like everyone on the Disboards here hates Hollywood and Vine.

We had to wait 5 minutes or so before we got to go inside. Before being seated, we got to stop for a photo with jedi Mickey at the front of the restaurant.

Honestly, this was one of the BEST character meals we have ever experienced! I think it was mainly due to the character interaction and the atmosphere, but we had a total blast. Just as much fun as all of the kids around, hahaha. All of the characters came by our table twice. Now, I usually can take or leave Disney lunch/dinner buffets because they don’t always have a lot of vegetarian options, but I had several things to eat here.

Was the food quality the highest in the parks? No, but it was perfectly fine standard buffet food. I’m not sure if they were more on top of their game at H&V since it was a special event meal, but I thought it was much better than the reviews indicate on here.

The best part of the meal was trying all of the specialty Star Wars themed desserts. We tried a little bit of all of them. My personal favorite was the Jabba cupcake. Isn’t it cute in a weird way? As cute as something with Jabba on it could be, I guess. Bahaha.

[URL='https://flic.kr/p/xiJq8g'][URL='https://flic.kr/p/svcDAg']After dinner, we rode Star Tours and walked around some shops. We decided to skip Fantasmic that night since we still needed to pack for our departure the next day. :( We tried giving our the special passes we had for Fantasmic seating from dinner, but the first few people we asked didn’t want them, so they just went to waste.[/URL]

[URL='https://flic.kr/p/xiJq8g'][URL='https://flic.kr/p/svcDAg']Hollywood Studios seems to be the park we neglect the most, although it wasn’t really intentional this trip. When we go in December, I want us to do practically everything in the park since we never know if something will be around the next time we visit. Anyway, we made our way out of the park and to the boat dock. Since we were leaving before Fantasmic, it wasn’t too terrible crowded so we timed it pretty well.[/URL]

[URL='https://flic.kr/p/xiJq8g'][URL='https://flic.kr/p/svcDAg']We were leaving the following afternoon, but had at least a half day in AK planned, including breakfast at Tusker House (my favorite!). Sadly, there were a lot of things that didn’t make it home with us, most notably our chocolate tea cups. We still had a little bit of cake left over, but we made it through a pretty respectable amount of the top tier. The following morning, I wrapped my bouquet in a trash bag and packed it, which probably wasn’t the best approach. It got overheated, and parts of it wilted and turned brown. The pieces I salvaged are now potpourri in our living room. :([/URL]

[URL='https://flic.kr/p/xiJq8g'][URL='https://flic.kr/p/svcDAg']After we were mostly packed and ready to go, I started feeling a little sad. As our honeymoon was ending, it meant it was almost time to leave our wedding bubble and go back to reality. I was sad enough in a lot of ways that the wedding was over, but at least we were still immersed in the magic! Josh and I got in bed and watched a little TV before going to sleep on the last night of our honeymoon.[/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL][/URL]

Aww the last day of the honeymoon is always so sad! and I always eat way too much on honeymoons! Your last day looked so amazing and I think your BEO is going to help alot of future of brides have a relastic idea on how much a Disney wedding! I have loved following along with your wedding and can't wait to see your wedding film!

You're welcome! I'm glad it's helpful. :) The final cost of our dessert party was $2511. That included the venue fees, buffet, viewing costs, and media guides. I feel like our price per person for the buffet seemed higher than a lot of other couples' menus I've seen, but I didn't really want to cut anything. I've seen some have it down to $30/pp. That price difference would have covered the cost of Lochside's venue rental fee for us. Our welcome lunch at Ariel's was quite a bit cheaper than our DP, but obviously the experience wasn't as fun and unique.

Thank you! I can't wait for our wedding film either!!! I'm starting to get really antsy about it. Haha.

Thank you for posting what a BEO looks like. My plan isn't due until Feb. But contracts can be so overwhelming.
My sister & you would totally get along well, she is a Star Wars junkie. She almost bought a pair of Yoda fleece pj's yesterday while we were shopping at Wal Mart. But she didn't.
So I may just sneak back & buy them for her for Christmas. LOL

I really wish it was in our budget to have Donald at ours. But it's just so expensive, and I'm kinda going a little over budget already. (SHHHH don't tell Kevin!)

Haha... it is really, really easy to go over budget! When you first get the BEO back to review, it can be a little overwhelming, but you seem to have so many of the important details down already. :thumbsup2 And that sounds like the perfect Christmas present to me! Is she excited about episode VII? We added on a day to our December WDW trip so we could see opening night in Downtown Disney! :D

When I started reading your PJ I had just picked my colors fuschia or hot pink and navy or marine blue. And there they were your colors. Gorgeous!
I have wanted to have our reception at the attic since I first started looking at weddings in disney. Now to just choose a venue SBP or Canada terrace are my front runners.
I love Cinderella carriage it was a gorgeous touch to the wedding. Congratulations!

Thank you! :) The Attic is such a beautiful space for a reception! I'm so glad we chose it. SBP and Canada are both gorgeous ceremony locations. You can't go wrong with either one! :goodvibes

Are you kidding me?? She has her ringtone as the storm trooper ballad. Not only is she a fan, she's got my nephew hooked. It's cute though.

We got our BEO. Yea I THOUGHT I had everything, until I realized that my MOH flowers were not on there. I totally forgot to add her flowers!!!!! Duh!

Hi Amanda! I know you're PJ is officially over, but I have some questions. I'm FINALLY about to start my PJ (we're waiting on our Letter of Agreement as we speak!) and I'm kind of using your PJ as an inspiration for how it is organized. How do you create the links to all of your posts like you did on your first page?? I'd like to set that up so I can keep all of my posts organized. Also, I use Flickr to post my pictures, but every time I do so, the link to my Flickr account shows up right below my picture. Is there a way to avoid this or should I use a different photo hosting site? Sorry for all the technical questions!

Well, it's not completely over just yet, haha. I still have our departure day and our wedding video - but we're still waiting on that. But thanks for the reminder that I have one last day of my TR to finish. :)

For your table of contents, what you do is click on the number below the post you want to link to. For example, if I wanted to have a link short cut to your comment above this, I would copy the link location on the little #374 at the bottom.

And, unfortunately, what I had to do with Flickr was edit the BB code of every single photo to remove the link to my account below. It was a pain, but the image quality on Flickr is much better than Imgur, which is what I had been using originally. I think some people use Photobucket for their PJs, but I'm not sure if they compress picture quality. I hope that helps a little! Let me know if any of that doesn't make sense! ")

Thanks so much for the quick reply and your help! I hope to have my PJ started in the next week or two =o) Hope you have an awesome Disney trip in 2 days!

Final Wedding Video

We got our wedding film from Trinity last night! The more I watch it, the more I like it. I couldn't embed it here, but the screen grab links directly to the video. The password is: 050415.

They included a couple of bonus features, like the uncut footage from IllumiNations during our DP, too.

We still have one more entry left in our TR, and now that I have our video, I will probably do a final post for vendor reviews soon as well. :)

Oh man, I know I don't know you, but I couldn't help but tear up from your wedding video! You guys are so cute. Your PJ is the first one I started reading, and I've had so much fun following along!

Thank you so much! :goodvibes I actually didn't tear up at our video, which is a little weird since I've totally cried watching other people's wedding films, haha. It's been a blast sharing everything here.

Can you tell me please where you took the shot with the big golf ball in the background was?

It's the BEST one I've seen and I so want to get that one. I understand why we can't get photos in Future World for our wedding shoot but I really want the big golf ball in the background so I'd love to know what to ask for to get that shot.

You look stunning BTW...I know I'll be exhausted as well for the shoot so the most prepared I am for locations the better! HAHA...
