2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Hey Fellow Runners,

I'm in Corral M for the Glass Slipper Challenge -- what time would you reccomend I arrive if I don't necessarily care about being near the front of the pack at my corral? This is my first race at Disney World, but I've done two at Disneyland. The two that I did at DL, the times were staggered by roughly 5 minutes with each corral, so when I was in I for the Inifinity Gauntlet Challenge in November, I came in around 6:15am with about 5 minutes to spare before we were up. Since I'm anticipating very little sleep during this trip, I'd like to take advantage of whatever opportunities I can to "sleep in" :p

Are you driving or using the transportation to Epcot? Last bus leave each resort at 4am, so you should be out at stop before 4 to catch it. I have no idea how driving would work, as the roads are pretty crowded from my view on the bus. Of course if you drive you can just sit in your car until the 20 min. walk to corrals. I'm sure others will be along to share their options and experiences too.

Thank You! Since this is my first time doing a race at WDW, I didn't even know the races started at Epcot ... lol. I was planning on using transportation? I'm staying onsite at Pop Century, and I just got on Google to see how far it is from Epcot and damn it doesn't seem walkable, haha! Sucks the last shuttle leaves at 4am ... I feel like being in a corral that low, I probably wouldn't even start until -- IDK, 6:30, maybe even later? When I did my DL runs I just took an Uber since I was staying off-site, and it worked out nicely -- timing-wise!

@jolaf408...yeah I stay off site at DL and just walk to start. Florida is way different. The Bus will drop us off in the Epcot parking lot and we will start a 5-10, maybe 15 min walk to the staging area. We will go through security and then a couple of photo ops. There is a stage with and MC and music and some places to buy coffee or something light. I usually sit in the bleacher and watch, some dance too early for me. Then the walk through the bag drop tents and on to the start, a good 20 min. walk. There are porta potties near the corrals. Everyone is required to enter through security in the Epcot parking lot. Used to be some would walk from the Port Orleans resort..NO MORE, DON'T EVEN TRY (that was for everyone else, not you).
We don't run through Epcot until near the end of the race. Hope you have fun!

The lines at the value resorts, like Pop Century, tend to be longer than at other resorts. Although I have not heard of runners being stranded at heir resorts, I would not plan on waiting until the last moment to get the the bus stop. Hopefully someone who has stayed at POP for a recent race can let you know what to expect.

Looking for some spectator help. DH is running and starting in corral B for PHM, DDs and I would like to be able to see him in MK and then finish in Epcot. Figuring he is going to stop for some photo ops and not run all out to enjoy the race, think that getting to MK by 6 - 6:15 would be good. What are the experiences with getting on the buses and monorail for spectators? How crowded are they for spectators and any suggestions for what time we should plan on getting on the monorail?

Easy easy ... I did this last year.

Watch him start!

After he passes, head to the monorail and take it to the MK.

Head to Main Street and begin your wait. It will be crowded and kinda crazy ... but not horrible. There will be someone selling coffee and hot cocoa there.

Watch him pass and scream, take pics, video, etc. (it can be quite a mass of people, so setting up an 'area' that you will be at is advisable ... but it's still easy to see the runners and vice Versa.

After he passes, go back to the monorail and you will still beat him back to the finish line.

You can do the math on when he starts, min/mile, etc ... all good ballpark numbers to estimate the timing.

Thank you! Makes me feel better about being able to see him in the MK

We are getting near the end of training. How is everyone doing? Hang in there, the finish is in sight!

I just did a 4 miler and I have a 9 miler scheduled tomorrow for my birthday. :-) This training session has me topping out at 5/10 miles next weekend. I haven't missed a run since before Christmas, so I'm feeling pretty good.

Happy birthday!

I was derailed quite a bit due to a lot of travel. I had great intentions of keeping up on training during those trips, but didn't do more than a few short runs. However, I'm feeling good now! I'm right in the middle of my hardest two week stretch on the plan DopeyBadger set up for me. Did a four mile "long" run Sunday, four miles at easy "A" on Monday, five at easy "B" on Tuesday and a tough Tempo run yesterday (one mile fast walk warm up, three miles at race speed, then one mile fast walk cool down). All but of those have been on the dreadmill, ugh. But the weather looks good for my 9 mile long run tomorrow to be back outside! I'm a bit nervous as it's been a month since I really did a long run, and it was 8 miles, but I know I can do it. Next week is a similar schedule, ending with an 11 mile long run. GULP!

This past week has been the first time I'm feeling really confident I can definitely finish the Half, and could even run it if I decided to. Being in corral G was also a confidence boost, as I know now for SURE I can take walk breaks when I need them, stop for characters, etc. and still be fine. My only real concern is weather. I don't do well in heat so PRAYING for a nice, cool morning. Really getting excited for it now!

I do a race in Seattle where I get up get ready walk out the door of the hotel and it's a 5 minute walk to my start.

Even at DL you have to walk to security, go through it, and walk to the staging area then through to the corrals and just getting to corrals is a walk. So you've got to be underestimating the time it took you from uber drop to the corral. :)

I just got on Google to see how far it is from Epcot and damn it doesn't seem walkable, haha!

Even if it was walkable you can't do it. For one, few sidewalks and always the possibility of wildlife. For two, ya gotta go through security. For three, if they catch you they can kick you out.

Wdw runs are an early morning.

1/29, Davenport FL. "Picked Up by Shipping Partner, USPS Awaiting Item "

2/1, Glendale Heights, IL. "Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item "

2/3, Las Vegas. "Arrived Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item"

And each time it has said something like "Your item arrived at a shipping partner facility at ..... This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date."

So it's moving all around the country, but nothing indicates receipt or the mailing date. Um, OK.

Thanks for that!

Yup! That's exactly what mines doing. The post office is just as confused

Sounds like you have a good plan going! I have been doing all of my runs inside this winter. We have had a lot of snow and the roads are just not safe. I'm hoping that it is not impacting my training too much. I'm getting in the miles, but its not the same as being outside.

I'm about a week away from weather obsessing. 14 days out, is my tradition. haha

Happy Birthday tomorrow!

I ran 6 yesterday and 12 this morning so I think I'm good for the Glass Slipper. I might do another long run next weekend but we'll see. I feel ready enough!

I also have a pretty crappy cold/cough so I'm hoping this is it before the race. I was sick for my first Princess and it was no fun!

Excellent news..mine is now actually in Reno in the arms of usps. Not sure who transported it across the country so far but they've got it now. Wonder how long it will take to get the rest of the way to me?

Training is going well. I ran 5 miles today. It's hot and humid today so my pace was slower than I wanted. Still trying to figure out how I want to run the 5K, 10K & 1/2. I'm using run/walk/run for the 1/2 and haven't decided if I'll just run the 5K & 10K. I'm not looking for PR for any of the races and I'd like to get some character photos this time. When I ran the 10K in 2015 I couldn't stop for any characters & had to immediately go back to the hotel after I finished. It's a lot of back story, but my DH was unable to go & my SIL ended up watching my kids on her WDW family vacation. I felt guilty and didn't want to cut into her family time too much.

Training is going well! I've done a few treadmill runs this week just because it was convenient and didn't require driving, but I got myself out for 10 miles this morning. I've got a couple more long runs scheduled, but honestly I think I am pretty confident for the race right now. I am in a pretty good corral, and I should have time to stop for pictures if the lines aren't crazy. I'm not worried about pushing my pace really, so I'm planning to just enjoy it :D

20 days from today we will be en route to the Poly!

Our training has been hit and miss, but I think we are well prepared. I'm a teacher and we have had flu going through the school (and our whole town) like crazy. Sure enough, I got it. Woke up Monday feeling miserable! Finally almost back to normal. I'm still planning on 10 miles tomorrow.

Did 6.2 miles today and will try to do 13.1 tomorrow as a dry run for the glass slipper, but boy was it cold out today for my run. I was feeling good but it was so hard because I stopped being able to feel my legs
