I live in a small community in northern MN. Our hospital has about 12 ventilators if we count the ones used in surgery. There might be another 12 at another local hospital. Northern MN is definitely not a hot spot but there are discussions of Covid cases in the area. DGD is fortunate that her other grandparents live close and she goes for sleepovers with cousins. DGD came home sick last time because one cousin was sick and the other was sent to grandparents house. Under normal circumstances that is a non-issue for me, kids get sick. Then I started thinking that this other side of the family may not be as good at social distancing as they could be and DD2 and husband don’t think much about it.
Well, last night I was thinking about the availability of ventilators in the area and realizing that if a shortage happens the 39yo Down Syndrome girl (DD1) may not be high on the list of recipients. I had discussion with DH and pointed out that until we have some better options maybe DGD should not come over or we could get together outside ( I sure wish this snow would go away). Am I being crazy? I know we can’t control everything in life, but I’m convinced one of the many intelligent people in the world will find some kind of an answer and things will get better.

No, you are not being crazy. Right now, staying away from it if possible is the best way to fight this virus.

If we could know who had it in advance, we could all avoid it. We just don't know.

I'm asking for grandchildren pictures every day. My DD is already tired of me but son in law is kinder, lol.

I don't think you're being crazy. You have to protect your dd. And you cannot control others actions. Getting together under the social distancing guidelines is what makes sense in your situation right now. We know so many other families with adult children and grandchildren who are choosing to do the same since they are not all adhering to the same rules in their day-to-day.

Glad I am not the only East Coaster that can’t sleep :)

I think that unfortunately you are right. You need to protect your other daughter. However, to put your mind at ease, no one is going to be rationing ventilators based on disability. I think 2 states tried that but were shot down by the feds.

First outbreak for my state. A nursing home on the other side of my county just had an outbreak. 66 people tested positive and 10 hospitalized. Definitely do not want to go to our county hospital since the majority were taken there. It’s scare times out there.

Thanks for the heads up again - this thread has been refreshed here: What Card Next (for Advanced Churners)

As a reminder - this thread is a safe and private place to ask your "next card" questions. If you are hitting any loopholes OR have been in the game awhile, you might choose to ask your question there to avoid leaving breadcrumbs in an openly searchable forum about your gaming behavior :D
Thanks. My questions are not super advanced, but I don't want to share much financial card history in public forums since I use my actual name.

Glad I am not the only East Coaster that can’t sleep :)

As I stumble into my bathroom each time I wake up in the middle of the night, I wonder if my internal clock will ever reset. Getting up for work was usually alarm set for 3:10am. Most of the time I would be lying awake waiting for it to sound off.

Last evening I got caught up with numerous Murphy Brown episodes. Drifted off too early. Laptop still had some charge so I read for awhile. This resulted in sleeping until 7:30am and messing up my schedule.

So upset to see the Mt Airy story - people should not have to end their lives like this. It's one thing to get older and die peacefully, and I'm talking about people in their 80tiesto 90ties, not youngsters like me, and another thing to be forced out of this world in a hurry.

Stay safe. Stay distant and use your social media and internet/cell connections to get together.

managed to redo my CIP app this morning. it did go through this time. the 80k/$5k offer was still working via P1's support link.

In my world of small annoyances, DS1 tripped and broke one of the support bars on DD's co-sleeper when he caught himself yesterday. So now the sleeping surface is super crooked and it's not really repairable. Of course the 2nd hand store is "non-essential" so they are closed, and I'm not seeing any on marketplace. We are SO not ready to transition her to her crib yet, but I might have to. I'm not ready, and she's still eating 3-5x a night. Her crib is set up literally 3 feet away, but that will still mean I'll have to get completely up and out of bed 3-5x a night now.

Is Murphy Brown streaming now? Where were you watching this series?I assume you mean the original run.

Wow - I didn't even know they had these things - I used a regular bassinet.
Sorry about the inconvenience but hopefully you will work something out with the crib to make it easier.

DDs new CIP arrived but we have not been able to activate it. We called the number but the automated confirmation didn’t work and we were not able to transfer to an agent. I tried to set up a new account online but it said info didn’t match. Super frustrating! Need to use that card for some pent up bills.

Ok,in all the fuss I've lost track of my IHG free night (it was not uncapped) it expired MArch 23...last I checked, I think it disappeared to be replaced with another free night good for a year....didn't I read somewhere (here?) that they were extending those that expired in this window? Or did I lose it by not calling in?

Anyone watching Little Fires Everywhere? I'm really enjoying it.

And I slept until 8 this morning. That's unreal. The dog didn't even wake me up. I'm definitely getting the recommended amount of sleep now that I'm not commuting.
I watched.... I'm not sure if I like the main characters much tho.....

:offtopic:

Anyone have a favorite chicken soup recipe? Maybe something that I can use some frozen corn in too? Trying to use up some things I have in the freezer that have been there forever. I'll eat just about anything as long as it's not too spicy!
I don't use a specific recipe, but one thing I've learned (I make it all the time) is to saute all the veggies in a bit of oil first to really enhance their flavors, and the spices too! I tend to toss in whatever veggies and things I have available at the moment, kind of creating a flavor theme as I build it -my last soup was kind of warm Italian theme, I added some leftover tomato sauce (homemade) to the broth, along with some rice, chicken and a bit of shredded cabbage with the carrots. Spices were similiar to spaghetti sauce spices for this bacth, oregano, onion, garlic, basil. It was quite good. All this cooking is nothing unusual for our house, I make 1-2 different batches of soup weekly anyway around here.... but I rarely follow a recipe.... I like to combine flavors as I go along. Sometimes I make a more thai/asian inspired chicken soup, sometimes it's more Middle east inspired with cumin, curry and turmeric. The one thing I NEVER make is plain old basic chicken soup :rotfl2:

I’m so sorry 😞. I have magical express tags waiting in my mail today. Sure Disney rub it in. Plus they sent them two weeks ago. Not sure why they sent them again.
Now my gripe for today. As of midnight last night we are in 2 weeks of stay at home. We had to drop something in a Fed Ex box, so we took a few minute drive to see how quiet it was. Yeah, Home Depot was busy. Menards was absolutely packed!!!!!! WTH is wrong with people? I hardly think building a book case or something is an essential or necessary reason to be out. People just don’t get it or don’t care. I am so mad. We aren’t even ordering takeout since they closed all those two weeks ago because we are really staying away from everyone (except the neighbor that comes over every Friday for darts and beer with DH, but he has been working at home for two weeks and not going either)
don't get me started....:sad2: it's the same here..... none of this isolation will do much good until they get serious enough to close these businesses to all customers except for certain hours of the day. My DH is still required to work,my DS was required to go into office until he just stopped bc he was feeling sick.... people are out and about.... so what's the point of me staying home in all this? is my daily question....

Call now. I don't what they'll do, but I have one that I haven't used yet either. I still have time.

The point is that if you stay home you reduce it, however small that effort is.

Doesn't hurt to call in. My last unrestricted night was supposed to be used for a DC weekend at the Willard last weekend. I cancelled the trip and called in to see what could be done since my FN was expiring a few days after. They did extend the unrestricted FN cert through 10/1.
