Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I can def. see that one cashier is one way where another is another way in the clarification you provided. And I agree I would probably just go to another cashier if that happened to me. I'm big on having written proof of policy (in store that is) because as we all know what one person tells you may not be accurate. It is cashier dependent in the sense that some cashiers will immediately balk at even trying to process the payment despite the lack of any official signage and corporate policy clearly communicated to customers, and are unwilling to budge on their stance. Other cashiers will process it without hesitation or question. Sometimes it isn't worth getting into with a cashier and it is easier to just try another cashier later. I personally rather do that than get store management involved and ultimately have them set a policy for the store (whether it is in line with the corporate one or not) that doesn't allow "entertainment cards" to be purchased with Target GC. As of 8/16 my local target did not have any signage indicating it was not allowed, so if corporate has changed their policy, it has not been clearly communicated to the stores and their employees.
Reminds me of one time a few months ago I was at my local Costco. Depending on the situation I might need to do two different transactions. Any time I have said "I would like to do two separate transactions" the cashier at Costco is more than willing to do so and doesn't balk at it at all. There is no policy regarding the inability to split of transactions.
However, one day I got a cashier that was for some reason just dead set against me doing two different transactions. My mom happened to be with me (as my guest) that day so maybe she assumed that I was buying my stuff for her (which wasn't the case and still isn't against store policy either) but she was asking me all these questions: "Is one transaction business or not" "Why do you need to do two transactions?" oh and my favorite was "Can't I just give you the subtotal of the one transaction?"...I was like "No, it's not business and personal transactions just personal, it doesn't matter why I want to do it, and no you can't just give me the subtotal" (I was not wanting to try and figure out how much the total of each transaction including tax and it was just unnecessary to try and do that).
I've been a member for a while now and never had this happen. The cashier ended up doing the two separate transactions grudgingly but I was honestly annoyed that she was giving me the 3rd degree. It wasn't like I could easily go to another cashier either and it hasn't happened since so I don't know what her deal was that day.
